Depression among attendants of the Sudanese National Association of the Blinds in Khartoum, Sudan

Abstract Background Blindness has profound consequences for the victim, family, and society. The impact of vision loss on daily life activities could lead to psychological stress. Early treatment depression may reduce added disability that is associated with loss. This study aimed assess extent factors among Sudanese blind people in Khartoum, Sudan. A cross-section facility-based was conducted, which participants assessed using Beck Depression Inventory Scale. chi-square test implemented determine relationship between categorical variables significance level all analyses set at p < 0.05. Results total 185 were included study. Out them, 84.3% male near half (42.2%) born blind. prevalence 11.4%. There significantly higher rates those who illiterate ( χ 2 = 6.233, 0.044) whose due accidents or traumatic causes 12.840, 0.002). lower rate blindness compared others 10.504, 0.005). Conclusions People have a lost their sight trauma depression, therefore, requiring more psychiatric support. Despite relatively low percentage establishing programs early identification combating population our setting highly recommended.
